TUNEin™ to READING

Expectations Explained

EXPECTATIONS EXPLAINED
Research and results data show students using TUNEin™ to READING making breathtaking reading gains, but we need to be clear: not every student in every school always improves. Here is additional important information:
1. Final results are based on an average.
In other words, we calculate the reading gain achieved by each student in a class and then divide that number by the total number of students in a class. It's not uncommon for some students in a class to make minimal gains while others make gains of between two and three levels - the end result is a class-wide average gain of more than one reading level.
2. We expect optimal results when schools follow the 9-week protocol and use our software with struggling readers in 4th to 12th grade from their general population. Please note:
a. Many schools are using TUNEin™ to READING with special education students and English language learners and seeing exciting and positive results. However, reading gains with both of these populations vary. We are adapting our software and revising our assessment methods so we can do an even better job helping special education students and English language learners.
b. Many schools have chosen to use TUNEin™ to READING with 3rd graders and are seeing strong results. While the initial research on our technology involved 4th to 12th graders, we do see success with slightly younger readers as long as they have basic phonemic awareness, which is different from phonics and defined by the International Reading Association as the ability to segment and manipulate the sounds of oral language. For more information on phonemic awareness, click here for the International Reading Association's quick, clear overview.
c. To benefit most from the software, students need to have achieved a very basic level of reading - instead of being "emerging readers" still learning the basics of phonemic awareness, they need to be "struggling readers" who need help with fluency and comprehension.
